Chrom: “Alright Uzuki, here’s the situation: They have
several Archers posted around the perimeters, with various warriors, knights,
and mages surrounding the walls. Four of our eight units are dead, three of
them are below half health, and all of our weapons are one hit away from
breaking. What can we do with this situation?”
Uzuki: “……….”
Chrom: “Umm…. Uzuki? You’re our Grand Tactician; you have
to have a plan.”
Uzuki: “Well…. we could bend over, put our heads between our
legs, and kiss our arses goodbye.”
Chrom: “That’s… a horrible plan”
Uzuki: “And you have blue hair so I guess we’re even.”
Hello my friends and welcome to yet another thrilling post
from your 1 & only, Uzuki. I know it’s been awhile since my last post. And
I mean awhile. But to sum up what’s been going in my life let’s just say ‘Life
is a bitch’. But it’s not like there’s anyone actually reading this in my tiny
corner of the internet sooooo……… with that out of the way let’s talk about
something a lot better than my personal life: Fire Emblem: Awakening.
I just gonna be honest I have never played a Fire Emblem
game. I know, I know please put your pitchforks down I know I’m a complete
shame to the entire nerd population. Please don’t rub it in. Frankly I blame my
12-year-old self for being a massive Final Fantasy fanboy. I missed out on a
lot of good things because of that bastard. But now isn’t the time for
regrets, I have a game to review!
I have never played a Fire Emblem game
before. The only contact I had with this series was through “Smash Bros Brawl”
with Ike flying in and slicing a nuclear bomb in half (Yeah let that image of badassery
soak in your mind). Of course I knew nothing about them and like Lucas
dismissed it as another series that I would never play. Fast forward several
years and one obsession with strategy games later I saw this at a Gamestop and decided
to check it out.
What have I been missing all these years?
If the rest of the “Fire Emblem” games are like Awakening
then I truly have been missing out on a great experience. This is probably the hardest strategy game that I have ever played. Which is ironic seeing as this the easiest game in the series. It's a simple game with a simple plot, a simple battle system with simple characters. But really it's how the game brings these simple elements together that makes Awakening's it's own inversive world.
The game's plot is a simple one: Guy needs to save the world from a evil dragon. Yea, that hasn't been done a thousand times. But again it's how the game goes around to doing this. Mind you it's not like
